

In Thailand there are many mangrove forests but here at Sirinart Rajini Ecosystem Learning Center is different from other forests because it is an artificial planted mangrove forest invented by human. In the past this forest in Pranburi estuary was destroyed by shrimp farming which totally polluted the soil. This is the common problem of mangrove forest degenerated in many forests in Thailand. In the year of 1996 when King Rama XI and Queen made a visit to Pranburi Forest Park, they were so worried about the crisis of mangrove forest situation in Pranburi estuary therefore they mentioned to the Royal Forest Department to resurrect this place. The Royal Forest Department then decided to cancel the concession on using this area for shrimp field. One year later (1997) this forest was seriously revived and implanted until now. It is almost 20 years to rehabilitate and now it becomes a plentiful lush greenery area again for habitat for fauna.



The first place you will find here is “Ruan Prong Khao”, which tells you all about the general knowledge an historical of this forest. Outside you will see a big wooden building calls “Ruan Kong Kang”, which exhibits the history of the mangrove and the lifestyle of Pranburi estuary from the royal utterance of King Rama XI and the Queen.



You will be astonished by the flawlessly cleanliness of this place as well as the shiny wooden floor with no single garbage! No need to pay for the entrance fee but you will get a free drinking water! Besides learning many kind of trees planted here you will see small life inhabit here. This is a good index indicates how luxuriant of the forest is. For example, you will find fiddler crab, telescope creeper, snapping shrimp which assimilate organic by eat mangrove leaves and other plants then transform them to be a fertilizer to increase the mineral to the soil and also helps the nutrient circulation in ecology mangrove forest system. Fishes is another index reveal how wealthy of each forest is. We will find special kind of fishes, for example, mudskipper, mullet, Mozambique tilapia, pony fish, which mostly habit only in the swamp. Another special animal you will discover here is collared kingfisher, one species of kingfisher, which is the most colorful bird in all kind of birds live in mangrove forest.



After you walk to the end of the pathway, the officer is waiting for you with a fresh drinking water before asking you to put your name and fill out the questionnaire. That’s all for the journey!
