Huay Mongkol temple is located in Tab Tai sub district, Hua Hun district Prachuab Kirikhan province with the previous name of Huay Kot temple. The present name (Huay Mongkol) was given by King Rama XI and use for the name of village, temple, school and many places. Huay Mongkol village is the place where King Rama IX came to visit since 40 years ago. King Rama IX came with many royal projects to be generated into the village to uplift people’s life and have a stable condition. At this temple is a place where the world’s biggest statue of enshrined Luang Por Tuad situates.
There are many service points in this temple, for example vast almshouse where people can have free meal, places for Buddhist amulets and give the offering dedicated to the monks. If you come here during public holiday or weekend you will meet an enormous group of people who come to worship the biggest Luang Por Tuad, which obviously outstanding contrasting with the skyline in the afternoon time.
At the base of the enshrined replica of Luang Por Tuad is an Erawan the elephant god with giant three-headed wood carved stand on left and right side. There’s belief of walk under elephant’s belly or throw the coin into its mouth for good luck because the body of Erawan elephant made from 9 kinds of sacred woods, which have their own characters of protection power by Thai’s belief such as Mai Sak (teakwood) for the honored, Mai Kanun for supportive, Sandalwood for the grace and Pra duu for the unity. Foreigners who come here may be wonder of what they see but for Thai people we are familiar with this culture and believe in invisible thing.
